The Building Years

The bridge between learning to read and reading to learn

Key Stage 2 is a pivotal stage. This is where children move from learning the basics to using them: from learning to read to reading to learn, from counting to genuine mathematical reasoning. It is where curiosity becomes knowledge and where the habits of a serious student are formed.

It is also the stage where gaps become consequential. A child who hasn't quite mastered the foundations of KS1 can start to fall behind, and in a large class this often goes unnoticed until it becomes a serious problem.

Our Key Stage 2 programme is designed to make sure that doesn't happen. With qualified specialist teachers and small classes of up to 15, we build deep, secure knowledge across every subject, while keeping a close eye on each child's progress and stepping in the moment they need support.

And throughout it all, the Islamic ethos that defines BRS Online School continues to shape how your child learns and who they become, present not as a weekly lesson, but in the manner of every subject, every day.

The KS2 Curriculum

A full and rigorous British curriculum

Our Key Stage 2 programme delivers the complete British National Curriculum, taught by qualified teachers with subject expertise. By the end of KS2, students are well-prepared for the demands of secondary-level study.

01

English

Core

Reading comprehension, creative and analytical writing, grammar, spelling and vocabulary. Children develop into confident, articulate readers and writers, capable of expressing themselves clearly and understanding increasingly complex texts.

02

Mathematics

Core

Building on KS1 foundations, children master multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, geometry and problem-solving. We develop genuine mathematical reasoning, not just memorised procedures.

03

Science

Core

Children explore biology, chemistry and physics concepts through structured enquiry, from living things and habitats to forces, materials and the human body. Scientific thinking and investigation are at the core.

04

History

Non-Core

From ancient civilisations to British history, children develop a sense of chronology, an understanding of cause and effect and the ability to think critically about the past.

05

Geography

Non-Core

Children learn about the world's physical and human geography (countries, climates, environments and how people live) developing both knowledge and a sense of their place in a wider world.

06

ICT

Non-Core

Age-appropriate ICT skills, digital literacy and an introduction to the foundations of how technology works.

07

Islamic Studies

Non-Core

Seerah, fiqh basics and Islamic history, taught with care so faith and character grow alongside academic learning, woven through the week rather than bolted on.

Looking Ahead

Prepared for what comes next

Key Stage 2 culminates in an important transition to secondary education. Our programme ensures children are genuinely ready, academically and in terms of study skills, confidence and independence.

We incorporate structured SATs preparation for families who want it, building familiarity with the format and expectations of national assessments without letting them dominate a child's education. More importantly, we focus on building the secure underlying knowledge that makes any assessment manageable.

By the time a child completes KS2 at BRS, they have the foundations, the confidence and the study habits to thrive at Key Stage 3 and beyond.

Our Approach

Specialist teaching in small groups

As children progress through Key Stage 2, the depth of each subject increases, and so does the value of being taught by someone who truly knows that subject. Our KS2 lessons are led by qualified teachers with genuine subject expertise.

In classes of up to 15, teaching can be properly responsive. A teacher can see when a concept hasn't landed and reteach it differently. They can stretch a child who's racing ahead and support one who needs more time. This kind of adaptive, individual teaching is the heart of what makes small-group learning so effective.

Specialist teachers

Subject-knowledgeable teachers who can teach with depth and answer real questions.

Live and interactive

Lessons are taught in real time, with genuine discussion and participation.

Adaptive teaching

Small groups mean teaching adjusts to each child, not the other way around.

Progress tracking

Each child's progress is monitored and reported, so nothing slips through unnoticed.

Class Sizes

Where every child stays visible

By Key Stage 2, the academic stakes are higher, and the risk of a child quietly falling behind in a large class is real. Subjects build on one another (a gap in Year 3 maths makes Year 5 maths harder) and large classes simply don't allow teachers to catch these gaps in time.

Our classes of up to 15 solve this directly. Teachers know exactly where each child is in every subject. There is no hiding at the back, no drifting through a lesson unnoticed, and no gaps left to widen. Every child is an active participant, during lessons.

What to Expect

Structured learning, sensible rhythm

Key Stage 2 students follow a full weekly timetable covering all their subjects, structured to give the rhythm and routine of a proper school week. Core subjects (English, Maths and Science) feature regularly, with History, Geography, ICT and Islamic Studies woven throughout.

Lessons are spaced to support genuine learning, with time for practice, consolidation and review. Because it's all online, families avoid the commute and the stress, while children get the structure and consistency they need to make real progress.

Who It's For

Built for children who need to be seen

Our Key Stage 2 programme suits a range of families: those home-educating who want structured, qualified teaching; international families seeking a British curriculum education with Islamic values; and children who are struggling, stalling or simply not thriving in a large mainstream classroom.

If your child is bright but bored, capable but losing confidence, or falling behind without anyone noticing, then small groups, specialist teaching, and individual attention can make a transformative difference.

KS2 Fees

Transparent pricing for families

Our Key Stage 2 fees are clearly structured with no hidden costs. A family discount is available for families enrolling more than one child.
